The Brisbane Lions can confirm that Jared Polec has requested to be traded during the upcoming AFL Trade Period.
Polec, 20, made his debut in 2011 after being selected by the Lions with pick No.5 overall at the 2010 AFL Draft.
Polec has played 16 career games with injuries limiting him to just one in 2013.
Lions General Manager – Football Operations, Dean Warren, said: “We’ve invested heavily into Jared’s development over the past three years, so we’re disappointed by this request. We’re also disappointed he doesn’t wish to be a part of a future that has seen Tom Rockliff, Jack Redden, Daniel Rich, Matthew Leuenberger, Pearce Hanley, Mitch Golby and Dayne Zorko commit for the long-term.
“We’re certainly not going to give Jared, a first round pick, away for nothing.
“The same goes for our other younger players who remain off-contract. They’re all required players and we’ll be doing what’s best for our football club in trying to retain their services.
“We would like them to speak to our soon to be appointed Senior Coach before they made any final decisions.
“We hope they stay but, if not, we’ll be looking after our Club’s needs and seeking value at the trade table.
“Some of them will need a very good deal to get done for a trade to happen.”
