New numbers for Lions
The Brisbane Lions have allocated guernsey numbers to its new recruits
Jack Crisp has also opted for a new jumper in 2014, replacing his former number 47 guernsey with the number 5 – which has previously been made famous by the likes of five-time best and fairest winner John Murphy, two-time Coleman Medallist Bernie Quinlan, and recent premiership star Brad Scott.
Interestingly, Crisp’s 12 senior matches are the most played in the number 47 guernsey throughout the Club’s combined history (Fitzroy and Bears included).
Signed Free Agent Luke McGuane will follow in the footsteps of two of the Club’s all-time greats – Kevin Murray and Paul Roos – by wearing the number 1 guernsey next season, while trade acquisitions Trent West and Jackson Paine will wear numbers 13 and 39 respectively.
The Lions’ first round selection at last week’s National Draft, James Aish, has chosen the number 4 jumper, which was recently made vacant by fellow South Australian Jared Polec’s departure.
Draftees Daniel McStay (25), Tom Cutler (26), Darcy Gardiner (27), and Lewis Taylor (28) will sit alongside each other in the Lions’ locker room, with Nick Robertson set to wear the number 18.
Isaac Conway (40), Zac O’Brien (47) and Archie Smith (44) have all been allocated numbers in the 40s – as is generally the case for Club rookies
