RETIRED defender Matt Maguire is confident that a combination of playing experience and hard work will set the young Lions on the track to future success.
The 31-year-old backman, who played 170 Senior games at the Brisbane Lions and St Kilda in total, made a decision on his playing future after experiencing ongoing symptoms from a concussion suffered two months ago.
“It looks pretty similar to the group that I was a part of at St Kilda with so many young, terrific players and a good solid tier of mid-range experienced players”, Maguire said.
“Led by Tommy Rockliff and now we’ve got Dayne Beams there as well helping him through the midfield.”
Maguire will be honoured at half time at the Gabba on Saturday and will remain in Brisbane until season’s end helping to mentor the Club’s younger players.
“I think once they all get 50 games under their belts I think the sky’s the limit for these guys and it’s a matter of hard work now before these guys start to get the success that they’re so hungry for.”
