The Brisbane Lions will regain 332 games of playing experience ahead of their clash with North Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.

Seasoned defender Daniel Merrett (181 games) will provide added leadership to the Lions’ young backline.

Dayne Zorko (81 games) returns from suspension, while Josh Green (70 games) who was named as an emergency for last weekend’s game against the West Coast Eagles, will get his first senior opportunity of 2016 this weekend.

Promising defender Marco Paparone will miss with a hamstring injury.

Lions General Manager of Football, Matt Francis, said while it is disappointing to lose the defender, he should only miss a week or two.

“Unfortunately, Marco has a niggling hamstring injury. Under further investigation by our medical team it looks like it will need a week or two to settle,” said Francis.

Mitch Robinson was also ruled out earlier in the week. The 26-year-old midfielder suffered a small tear to his calf in Sunday’s loss to the West Coast Eagles. However, he is expected to return for Round 3 against Geelong at Simmonds Stadium.

Jonathan Freeman has been omitted.

Nick Robertson, Liam Dawson and Freeman have been named as emergencies.
