In this week's Vero Coaches Wrap, Assistant Coach Danny Daly dissects the win over the Gold Coast SUNS.
Lions.com.au covers the main points below.
Rucking and Role-ing
"Stefan Martin and Josh Walker in the ruck really got us going.
"We know he got injured before half time but before then I thought Stef had a massive impact on the game.
"He made an impact from the first centre bounce, he won the contest, and drove it forward."
"He was a bit down on his form against Geelong. He's a fantastic competitor and a fantastic person and he just wanted to make sure he got the side up and going and he did that."
"It was a big task for Josh to step in for Stef but he did it very well.
"He gave us first use around stoppages and took intercept marks.
"He got us going in the second half."
GPS Tells the Story
"The players wear this tool in the back of their jumpers - we do it at training, we do it in games.
"What is does for us is measure how the players are going in terms of how far they're running, how many hard efforts they're doing or if they've been walking too much.
"From the distance they've run in the game we can actually find out how many hard efforts or high speed metres they've done.
"We get this tracking device live so at breaks or during the game we can talk to players and let them know they're not working hard enough, or their intensity needs to go up or they're walking too much.
"It gives them a good gauge of what they need to do mentally to get their game going."
Tom Cutler ran 13.9kms and had 96 high speed efforts - the Lions defenders high speed effort average was 77.
Harris Andrews ran 14.6 kms while Liam Dawson ran the most out of our defenders with 14.8kms.
As a whole, the defenders ran an average of 13.7 kms with an average of 86% time on field.
