Did you know that Rohan Bewick was once a member of the Mozzie Squad?
It has been revealed in this week’s From The Players’ Lounge podcast that Rohan Bewick was in fact once a member of the initial Mozzie Squad.
According to folklore (or Rohan Bewick), in 2012 the Mozzie Squad was founded and consisted of Bewick, Josh Green, Todd Banfield and Dayne Zorko.
Todd Banfield left the Club at the end of 2013, however ‘Flicked to the curb, or swatted’ as Mitch Robinson put it, Bewick lost his spot in the squad when the Lions drafted Lewis Taylor.
Taylor revealed that Bewick didn’t meet the height requirements in order to be part of the famous squad.
“There is a rule, you’ve got to be under 180 (cm), I think he comes in at about 184 (cm),” said Taylor.
Bewick however said it was Squizzy that came between him and the Mozzie Squad.
"We drafted Squizzy, then I was booted,” Bewick said.
The Mozzie Squad remains Dayne Zorko, Josh Green and Lewis Taylor, but Taylor concedes that Allen ‘Bundy’ Christensen was stiff to miss out on being named as a member of the Mozzie Squad.
“Bundy was stiff (to be left out)… He sort of gets floated in and out of it. He’s about 179cm,” he said.
How do the boys make sure you’re under 180cm?
“It’s back-to-back sort of stuff, but if they’re on the border…” Taylor said.
"If another player comes in under 180 we’ll all sit down.
“If they’re 180.5cm’s – they’re not in”
Taylor also warned fellow Mozzies that if they were to have a growth spurt, they would be ‘booted’ from the group once getting passed the 180cm limit.
"We need Greeny, we need the three of us in there,” he said.
"But if he tips over 180, which I’m very doubtful (he’s gone)."
