The Brisbane Lions will determine in the next few weeks whether Dayne Beams will play again this year.
Beams had surgery in May on the troublesome knee that kept him sidelined for the first six weeks of the year and restricted the 26-year-old to just seven quarters of football before again succumbing to injury after Brisbane’s Round 8 loss to Collingwood.
The exact cause of the severe pain in Beams’ knee remained a mystery until exploratory surgery revealed the extent of the tendinitis issue.
“Dayne’s a few weeks post his surgery now and it’s looking really positive,” said Brisbane Lions Head of Physiotherapy Shane Lemcke.
“The knee pain that has plagued him for the last six months or so feels good at this point in time so we’re building up his training.”
Beams was placed on the Club’s long-term injury list in June.
“We anticipate he should be back looking to play towards the very end of the season and we’ll make a decision at that point whether he actually takes the field or if keep him on ice until next year.”

Brisbane Lions medical staff are confident Allen Christensen will also be available in the backend of the season.
“Allen had his collarbone surgery a couple of weeks ago. He actually needed surgery on his wrist as well so we did that because it fit in the same (recovery) timeframes.
“He’s had a right collarbone surgery and a left wrist surgery – all going well at this point of time (and) he’s on track to be available in the last couple of weeks of the year.”
Harris Andrews is set to return this weekend after missing last weekend’s match against the West Coast Eagles with a groin strain.
“Harris is recovering really well for the minor groin strain he had last week at training. He’ll train today. If that goes well he’ll put his hand up potentially for selection at the end of the week.”
Tom Bell will have surgery on his knee and will not play again this season.

In other news, Archie Smith has suffered another concussion while playing in the Reserves. The ruckman was concussed following a heavy knock in the Reserves a fortnight ago.
“Archie was unfortunate to get another head knock on the weekend. He’s had another minor concussion but given it’s his second concussion in under a month we’ll definitely take a conservative approach and he won’t play this week.”
We have lodged paperwork to transfer Ryan Harwood from the Club’s Primary List to our Long-Term Injury List. https://t.co/dsRlZK8OTE
