Mitch Robinson
Fresh off a 38-possession game against West Coast and a shutdown role on 2014 Brownlow Medallist Matthew Priddis, Mitch Robinson will be one to watch on Saturday. The 26-year-old is no stranger to run-with roles. Three weeks ago, Robinson performed an outstanding run-with job on Bryce Gibbs, holding the Blues star to just 12 possessions while racking up 25 himself, 15 of them contested, and laying eight tackles. He also held Lachie Neale to 18 possessions in Fremantle's big win over the Lions a fortnight ago. He is likely to get either Trent Cotchin or Dustin Martin when the Lions play Richmond at the MCG on Saturday.
Dustin Martin
The cream always rises to the top. When Dustin Martin last played the Lions in round 3, 2015, the midfielder had 29 touches and kicked two goals in the Tigers’ 79-point win over Brisbane. Martin was electric against the Gold Coast SUNS a fortnight ago, tallying a career high 38-disposals and two goals in Richmond’s 17-point win. To be any chance of a shock upset on Saturday, the Lions will need to curtail the influence of the Richmond star, whose recent form has elevated him to a strong Brownlow Medal chance. Lions run-with midfielder Mitch Robinson is likely to get the job.
Jack Riewoldt
Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt, has kicked 27.16 at a conversion rate of 62.7 per cent this year. The two-time Coleman Medallist has kicked 27 goals this season, averaging 15.2 disposals and 6.6 marks per game. He kicked four goals the last time the two teams met in Round 3, 2015, and will be one to watch on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Walker
The Lions’ goal kicking woes have been troubling the Club all season. With a conversion rate of just 46.9% and 17th in the competition, the Lions will be hoping to start Saturday’s game well. Josh Walker kicked a season best 4.0 against the West Coast Eagles last weekend and will be relied upon as a key target up forward.
Shane Edwards
One of the Tigers’ strong midfield group, Shane Edwards had 22 possessions and kicked three goals against the SUNS in Round 12. Together with the class of Brett Deledio, Trent Cotchin and Martin the Lions’ midfield will be challenged against the Tigers.
