YOUNG forward Josh Schache was a standout in the Brisbane Lions' intra-club match on Friday afternoon.

The No.2 pick from the 2015 NAB AFL Draft kicked three goals, gave one off and missed a couple of others in a dominant display at Coorparoo.

In a virtual 'Probables v Possibles' match-up, Schache manhandled his younger and smaller opponents.

He is bigger and stronger than last season, took strong overhead marks and if he kicked as well as he can, could have finished with a fistful of goals before being rested for the last quarter.

"He got a lot of the footy, he kicked goals, he created goals and was off at three-quarter time, so we were pretty happy with the way he went about it," Lions coach Chris Fagan said. 

"There's four or five blokes competing for spots up there (forwards), which is good."

For the record, the stacked orange team won by close to 20 goals and there were no injuries.

A number of the Lions' best players sat out for different reasons, with ruckman Stefan Martin and midfielder Daniel Rich rested, although the club said they would have played if premiership points were up for grabs.

Dayne Beams (knee) and Allen Christensen (shoulder) are also on the way back from injuries and being managed.

While Schache dusted off the pre-season rust in hot and humid conditions, he had a few mates that also impressed.

Last year's top pick and No.3 overall, Hugh McCluggage, played one half, and although he did pick up that many touches, he made every one count with exquisite execution.

Former Giant Jake Barrett was excellent in a mix of midfield and half-forward roles, kicking two goals and getting plenty of the ball across the four quarters.

He looks capable of breaking into the senior team.

Tom Rockliff, on the way back from an Achilles niggle, played the second half and got through well, while 2013 Rising Star Lewy Taylor was one of the best players afield.
