Richmond superstar Dustin Martin took home the 2017 Brownlow Medal after earning a record 36 votes, narrowly outpolling ineligible Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield (33 votes) and Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell (25 votes).
Captain Dayne Beams led the Lions’ Brownlow Medal count with 17 votes, racking up an additional two more votes than expected by AFL Media’s Brownlow Predictor Tallies.
Beams led the Lions from the front in 2017, consistently gathering Brownlow votes for his convincing efforts. However, it was the two QClash Rounds against Gold Coast Suns which showcased Beams' sublime skills.
The Skipper picked up 32 disposals and booted four goals during the Round 21 clash, claiming the Marcus Ashcroft Medal and another 3 Brownlow votes for the second time this year.
Beams finished 10th on the final Brownlow Medal leaderboard, followed by Lions’ midfielder Dayne Zorko on 14 votes.
Zorko showcased a terrific season, claiming his third successive best and fairest, but was considered ineligible for Brownlow following a one-match ban for striking Carlton defender Lachie Plowman in Round 18.
The midfielder was ranked third highest amongst the illegible players following Patrick Dangerfield (33 votes) and Zach Merrett (15 votes).
Lions’ big man Stefan Martin drew six votes, amongst the likes of Tiger’s Jack Riewoldt and Hawk’s Jarryd Roughead.
Daniel Rich tallied four votes and Eric Hipwood and Tom Rockliff tallied two votes. Whilst, Lewis Taylor and Ryan Lester followed with one vote each.
