Brisbane has celebrated Lachie Neale's 250th game with its first win at the MCG since 2022, posting a 22-point victory over Melbourne on Thursday night. In wintery conditions, the Lions held the Demons to their lowest three-quarter time score in four years, ultimately finishing the game 12.10 (82) to 8.12 (60) winners. A late surge from Melbourne wasn't enough to overcome the 43-point deficit at the final change. Charlie Cameron shook off a slow start to the season to kick three goals, as did Eric Hipwood, who kicked two of his own.

    Match Preview: Lions vs Dees

    The race to September begins!

    The race to September begins!

The bye rounds are behind us, teams jostling to separate themselves on what is a congested ladder, and our boys are hitting their stride.

So, Lions fans get ready for another big clash against the Dees, as we take a look at this weeks Match Preview.

    Last Time We Met

    Last time: Brisbane 12.10 (82) d Melbourne 8.12 (60) Round 5, 2024

It was a night to celebrate as our Lions got the job done at the MCG in co-captain Lachie Neale’s 250th game.

In wintery conditions, our Lions posted a 22-point victory over Melbourne and our first win at the MCG since 2022. Our usual midfield culprits were at their mighty best, led by Cam Rayner's 25 disposals and nine clearances, alongside Lachie Neale (24 disposals, eight clearances) and Josh Dunkley (30 disposals, nine marks). The connection between our midfield and forward line was clear, with Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood, kicking two goals each across the opening term.

A late surge from Melbourne wasn't enough to overcome the 43-point deficit at the final change. Under Friday night lights our Lions will be looking to repeat recent history against the Dees with a strong start in front of a big Gabba crowd!

    Excited About

    Ashy’s Return!

Lions’ fans can all rejoice as this is a moment that we’ve all been waiting for.

Brisbane Lions midfielder, Will Ashcroft will make his long-awaited return against Melbourne under the Gabba lights this Friday night.

After suffering an ACL injury in round 19 last year, Ashcroft will line up for the first time this season, giving Fages another lever to pull within the midfield.

We’re sure there will be plenty of cheers when Ashy steps foot onto the Gabba and we wish him all the best in his return!

    Match-ups we're keen for

    Eric Hipwood vs Jake Lever

Our boy Hippy has been lighting it up!

In our last three matches Eric Hipwood has averaged 4.3 goals, 11.3 marks and 8.3 score involvements. As he looks to continue his mid-season surge, he’ll have the company of Melbourne defender Jake Lever. Lever returns from injury and will be looking to give the demons an extra boost in defence as these two men square off to help their sides break out of the logjam that is the middle of the ladder.

It's going to be a battle of the tall timber, but we back our man Hippy to fight the good fight and continue at his goal kicking best!

Match Report: Hugh McCluggage Seals Dramatic Comeback as Brisbane Edges Melbourne by 5 Points

Hugh McCluggage has sealed a dramatic come-from-behind victory for Brisbane on Friday night, threading a late goal from the boundary line to sink a heartbroken Melbourne by five points at the Gabba.

Hugh McCluggage has sealed a dramatic come-from-behind victory for Brisbane on Friday night, threading a late goal from the boundary line to sink a heartbroken Melbourne by five points at the Gabba.

After trailing by 23 points at half-time and 15 at the final change, the Lions stormed home to win 11.20 (86) to 11.15 (81) to jump into the top eight for the first time this season.

Brisbane botched plenty of chances in the final quarter and looked like falling frustratingly short, before Kai Lohmann breathed life into their comeback with a terrific left-foot finish.

After Will Ashcroft's hurried shot hit the post to level scores, it was McCluggage's turn to play hero. But it wasn't without controversy.

Hemmed in near the boundary, Demon Alex Neal-Bullen picked the ball up and dived over the line to safety. Or so he thought.

However, the umpire paid a free kick for insufficient intent and McCluggage went back and slotted the difficult shot from 45m.

Bayley Fritsch had a chance to level scores late, but his flying shot sailed wideand Brisbane was home to win its fourth straight game.

Led by Jack Viney (26 disposals and nine clearances) and Kysaiah Pickett(five goals), Melbourne was fantastic for most of the match, breaking the game open with an eight-goal second quarter, but it ran out of legs.

After being outplayed in the first half, Brisbane's midfield lifted, led by McCluggage (28 disposals), Lachie Neale (29) and Josh Dunkley (32).

With a ferocity around the contest that overwhelmed Brisbane, the Demonskicked eight goals in a stunning second quarter.

Brisbane had dropped the Jarrod Berry tag on Viney, Max Gawn was dominating his duel with Oscar McInerney and Melbourne forced the ball forward time after time and punished a leaky Lions defence as Clayton Oliver (29 disposals and a goal) started brightly.Jacob van Rooyen started the chaos, kicking two goals from strong marks before Pickett completely took over.

The dynamic half-forward kicked three for the term – four for the half – including one exquisite left-foot snap at top pace from 40m.

It didn't matter who Brisbane sent to him, it simply had no answer for Pickett's pace, evasion and expertise in the air.

Melbourne's tall forwards, so often questioned, suddenly looked potent, with Harrison Petty and Daniel Turner taking multiple contested marks alongside van Rooyen to prove critical links in the chain.

    Only Joe could do that

On a frustrating night for Joe Daniher, he still found a way to have an impact – in a way only he could. As the Lions streamed forward in the third quarter Daniher looked like taking an uncontested mark about 40m out. However, he dropped it, then tripped over, and with two teammates heading towards goal unattended, the lanky full-forward got to his feet and kicked it off the ground – and watched it dribble through. Unintentional as it was, it was an unforgettable moment all the same.
