The field for the 2021 Brisbane Lions Club Champion is wide open and the vote count this Sunday, September 12 at the Brisbane Convention, is expected to go down to the wire.

Alongside the Club's most prestigious award, a number of other awards will be presented, including the Nigel Lappin Trophy for Runner Up, the Alastair Lynch Trophy for third place, Rookie of the Year, Marcus Ashcroft Most Professional Player and Shaun Hart Trademark Player of the Year. 

Two-time winner Lachie Neale endured some injury woes in 2021 and although he produced some form that was reminiscent of his Brownlow medal winning exploits of last year, his iron like grip on the award has eroded.

Will the man who once called the medal his own, Dayne Zorko, add to his collection of four Merrett-Murray medals?

Or will a first-time winner be crowned?

All Australian Daniel Rich, midfielders Jarryd Lyons and Hugh McCluggage and electric forward Charlie Cameron are all expected to be strong contenders.

With votes valued on the roles players perform and no limit on how many can receive maximum votes we are expecting a tight tussle.

The fascinating aspect of the vote count will be the insight fans receive into the contributions of individual players through the eyes of the coaching staff.

The Shaun Hart Trademark Player of the Year, Marcus Ashcroft Most Professional Player and Rookie of the Year awards will also be hotly contested.

The Most Professional Player is always one of the most coveted awards and with the elite standards at the Club the driver behind consecutive finals appearances, there would be more than one worthy recipient.

The Trademark Player of the Year carries the same gravitas and the likes of Oscar McInerney, Daniel Rich, Dan McStay, Hugh McCluggage, Linc McCarthy and Darcy Gardiner are sure to poll well.
