Summary
Len Wigraft was a fine follower, and occasional forward, whose hard work often went unappreciated by the wider football public.
A big, raw-boned recruit from Preston, he was an incredibly smart footballer who was adept at close-checking.
Wigraft was among Fitzroy’s best players in their 1922 premiership win over Collingwood and was prominent again in the VFL Grand Final the following year in a losing side against Essendon.
He won three Club Best and Fairest awards in 1920, 1924 and 1925 and captained Fitzroy in 1927 – his final season – before spending the 1934 season at the helm as Senior Coach. A proud Victorian, he also represented the ‘Big V’ on eight occasions.
