The 2022 AFL and AFLW seasons are shaping up to be bumper seasons, with plenty of exciting moments on the horizon. We take you through the major milestones to watch out for in 2022.
25 Games
As many as seven Lions could reach their 25 AFLW game milestone in the 2022 NAB AFLW season.
Sophie Conway, Nat Grider, Orla O’Dwyer, Belle Dawes, Cathy Svarc, Dakota Davidson, and Greta Bodey are all a chance to reach the AFLW and Club quarter century milestone at various points across the season.
Conway, who currently sits on 24 games, could get there as early as Round 1 should she be selected.
While off-season recruit Phoebe Monahan is only three games shy of clocking up 25 AFLW games.
50 Games
It’s taken six years for the first AFLW players to reach 50 games due to their short seasons, but in 2022 three Lions could reach the historic milestone first.
Vice Captain Emily Bates, 2021 Premiership Best on Ground Kate Lutkins, foundation player Ally Anderson will all start their 2022 seasons on 41 games.
If the trio continue their streak of never missing a game, they’ll reach the 50 game milestone in Round 9 against North Melbourne.
Only two other players in the competition, Adelaide’s Ebony Marinoff and Stevie-Lee Thompson, could reach the 50 game milestone in Round 9. Like their Lions counterparts, the pair will also start their season on 41 games.
Captain Breanna Koenen will need to play 11 games for her to reach the historic milestone, while Shannon Campbell sits just behind her, 12 games away.
100 Games
Fives Lions could be eyeing off 100 games milestones come 2022.
Popular young midfielder Jarrod Berry and versatile utility Cal Ah Chee are two players on the cusp of reaching their 100 AFL game milestone in 2022.
The milestone moment will also represent Berry’s 100th game in the maroon, blue and gold. While Ah Chee will clock up 50 games in the Lions’ guernsey five games prior to his 100th AFL game.
Consistent forward Lincoln McCarthy could reach his 100 AFL game milestone as early as Round 6.
Oscar McInerney will need to repeat his 2021 effort and play all bar two games in the 23 round season to reach his 100th AFL and Club game.
While excitement machine Charlie Cameron sits 22 games away from recording his 100th Club game in Lions’ colours.
150 Games
Four Lions could find themselves joining the 150 games club next season.
Dan McStay, Darcy Gardiner and Harris Andrews are all staring down the barrel of a mid-season milestone of 150 AFL and Club games in 2022.
While off season recruit Joe Daniher also stands a chance to reach his 150th AFL games milestone, should he play 18 of the 22 rounds next season.
200 Games
Lachie Neale could hit a major career milestone early in the 2022 season.
The 2020 Brownlow medallist is just five games away from reaching his 200th AFL game, after a challenging 2021 that saw Neale hampered by injury.
250 Games
All Australian Daniel Rich caps off the Lions’ major milestones for 2022, with 250 AFL and Club games on his horizon.
After a standout season that saw Rich secure his first All Australian blazer, the veteran defender will need just four games in 2022 to reach the career milestone.
Livewire Mitch Robinson could also join Rich in reaching 250 AFL games in 2022, with 18 games to play before he records his 250th AFL game and 150th Club game.
