With 10 home and away rounds in the 2022 NAB AFLW season, there’s more AFLW action going on than ever before.

We’ve picked out the match-ups that we think you can’t afford to miss this AFLW season.

Round 1: The Grand Final Rematch

The Lions will kick off their 2022 season against a familiar foe, facing the Adelaide Crows at Flinders University Stadium on Sunday January 9.

It’s undeniably where the Premiership defence starts and the Lions will be looking to get their season off to a strong start.

However, they'll need to put up a solid fight to walk away with the win, as Adelaide will be looking to settle the score after the Lions walked away from their last meeting with the ultimate prize.

Round 2: Unfurling the Flag

The Lions’ first home game of the season, and their first since winning the 2021 NAB AFLW Premiership, hits the fixture in Round 2 and it will be one you won’t want to miss.

In their first home appearance since the historic win, defending Premiers will unfurl their 2021 Premiership flag at their new home ground, the Maroochydore Multi Sport Complex, in front of a passionate home crowd, before taking on visitors Carlton.

Premiership celebrations aside, the battle between Carlton and the Lions will be one for the calendar in itself if their last meeting was anything to go by.

A Quarter Final match-up back in 2020, Carlton dominated in the air and on the ground to produce a 29-point win and knock Brisbane out of the Premiership race.

Round 3: Bring the Pride for QClash

QClash is always a favourite in the AFLW calendar, 2022 won’t be any different with the Round 3 Queensland derby falling in Pride Round for a second year running.

The Lions will don their Pride guernsey under lights at Metricon Stadium as the competition celebrates the LGBTQI+ community and diversity in football.

The last time the Lions and the Suns met was in Round 2, 2021 where the Lions dominated play across all four quarters to take the QClash honours.

With both sides already having blown out the pre-season cobwebs in a practice match against one another at Leyshon Park earlier this month, the traditional rivalry looks set to continue at QClash 2022.

Round 6: A New Rival

Brisbane and Collingwood will go head-to-head at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex in Round 6, in what is shaping up to be one of the blockbusters of the 2022 season.

The two foundation AFLW sides have fast formed a fierce rivalry over recent years, with the Lions handing Collingwood their only two losses of the 2021 season.

The second of which was the nail-biting Preliminary Final that saw the Lions clinch their third AFLW Grand Final appearance by just four points at the Gabba.

With both teams being talked about as genuine Premiership contenders in 2022, the next installment of this rivalry will be on you won’t want to miss.

Round 8: Indigenous Round

Another layer of ceremony will be added to our Round 8 clash in 2022, with the rescheduled affair against West Coast now falling in Indigenous Round.

It will be the second inaugural Indigenous Round in AFLW history, with the round first appearing on the AFLW fixture in 2021.

The last time the Lions met the Eagles was back in Round 3, 2021. It was tight affair through the first half with plenty of back and forth between the two sides, before the Lions pulled away for a 45-point win over the home side.
