The Brisbane Lions are proud to welcome former Adelaide Crows AFLW player Rheanne Lugg into the den, after she signed for the 2020 season.
Lugg played six games for the Crows in the 2018 season and is a skillful, hard running, medium sized midfielder. She will add speed and endurance to the Lions squad, as she is highly regarded for running ability.
The 29-year-old did not play in the inaugural season of AFLW as she decided to focus on her commitments with the Australian Army.
She nominated for the AFLW Draft in 2017, with the Crows selecting her with Pick No.42. Lugg has a long history with footy, winning a premiership with Swan Districts in Western Australia and represented WA four times. Rheanne was in the WA team that beat the Victorian team for the first time in 2015.
Lions Women’s CEO Breeanna Brock said Lugg would be a strong addition to the team.
“We want great footballers at our Club but more importantly we want great people to continue building our strong culture here at the Lions,” Brock said.
“We believe Rheanne can help us with this next season .
“She is already familiar with our girls, having played alongside Kate Lutkins in games for the Australian Army and Jessica Wuetschner.
“We can’t wait to have her up here to get started.”
Lugg said 2018 All Australian Kate Lutkins played a big part in her signing on with the Lions.
“I had a bit of banter with Kate at defence footy and she said I should join the Lions,” she said.
“Once I got in touch with the Club everyone just seemed so welcoming.
“Even though I hadn’t met the coaching team and most of the players, they already felt like a family welcoming me with open arms which was a really lovely feeling.”
