1. Hungry Big Cats
Both the Lions and the Cats will come into Round 4 hungrier than ever.
With Geelong still searching for their first win of the season and the Lions on the comeback trail, both sides will be desperately hunting those critical four points come Saturday.
Geelong will arrive in Maroochydore off the back of three narrow defeats at an average margin of just 11 points.
While Tuesday’s result has provided a big lift in the Lions’ camp after their less-than-ideal start to the season, the side will still need a solid win on Saturday to keep their Premiership defence on track.
The return of tall forward Dakota Davidson and experienced midfielder Sophie Conway will provide an added boost to the Lions offensive efforts when they attempt to put away another win on Saturday.
2. Tight Turnaround
Successfully handling a four-day break between games is no easy feat for the most professional of teams, and it’ll be one of the challenges standing in the Lions’ way on Saturday.
Saturday’s Round 4 clash will be the side’s second game in less than a week due to a rescheduled Tuesday night fixture against the Blues, and the Lions will need to prove that they can go the distance against a lively Geelong.
Key defender Shannon Campbell doesn’t think it’ll be a problem, telling media on Friday that the team is just keen to play footy.
“The girls are excited to get back into it,” Campbell said.
“We’ve had a couple weeks off, and it’s just exciting to be back out there and playing footy again.”
3. Home Crowd Advantage
It will be something of a homecoming on Saturday when the Lions head up the highway for their first home game of the 2022 NAB AFLW season at the Maroochydore Multi Sport Complex.
With the Sunshine Coast boasting a rich football history, including a long list of AFL and AFLW players hailing from the region, Maroochydore will become a fortress of Lions supporters on Saturday.
Spectators will be treated to more than just a cracking game of football, with the Lions to take a moment to celebrate their 2021 Premiership with members and fans before the first bounce.
Fans and members are encouraged to get behind the defending Premiers at Maroochydore, with the side needing a loud and proud home crowd behind them on Saturday to ensure they keep their dream of going back-to-back alive.
