Newly appointed midfield coach, Cameron Bruce will be looking to draw from premiership success as he gets accustomed to Queensland life.

Speaking to Lions Media, Bruce said he's settled into Brisbane quickly.

"Absolutely loving it here so far! Not only is it a great environment from a weather perspective, the club have been so welcoming, there's so many quality people here."

Having started his career in 2000 with Melbourne and later moving to Hawthorn, Bruce and Lions Head Coach, Chris Fagan have built a strong relationship over the last two decades.

"I started with Fages at Melbourne, he was coaching the reserves when I first started in the system," he said.

"From there he became my line coach in the AFL and once I retired, a coaching opportunity came up at Hawthorn and I jumped at it!"

Bruce's resume is impressive, having been a senior assistant coach in Hawthorn's famous three-peat era between 2013-2015 before moving to Carlton in 2017.

Having studied under the guise of Fagan and Alastair Clarkson previously, our new midfield coach couldn't be more appreciative of the experience.

"Working with Fages at Hawthorn was outstanding. You've seen the calibre of coaches that have come from that era. Guys like Alastair Clarkson, Adam Simpson, Leon Cameron and Luke Beveridge, it was a great apprenticeship and we had some great success."

Turning his attention to Brisbane's engine room, Bruce has been utilising his strong knowledge of running patterns and structures to help take an already talented midfield to the next level.

"The midfield group do so much right already and they're a very strong unit so I'm certainly not here to reinvent the wheel.

"What I feel I'm strong at is running patterns, and that's an area that the guys have identified they want to improve in, so I'll be doing what I can to help them do that.

"I've been fortunate to coach really strong midfields in the past, particularly that Hawthorn group so I feel like I've got a bit to add and looking forward to helping them achieve what they deserve."
