The Brisbane Lions have made official their intention of selecting Hyundai Lions Academy members Harris Andrews and Liam Dawson at the 2014 NAB AFL National Draft by lodging an official bidding nomination today.
The Club has also nominated Josh Clayton, the son of former Fitzroy Best and Fairest Scott Clayton, as a Father-Son selection ahead of today’s 2pm deadline.
Although there is no a guarantee the three players will join the Lions, given the bidding process takes place next Monday, the Club will have priority access to Andrews, Dawson and Clayton, with the opportunity to match any rival bids should another club be interested.
Andrews, a product of the Aspley Hornets, is a 200cm key position defender and back-up ruckman who has shown considerable improvement during his time in the Lions Academy.
Also from Aspley, Dawson, is a 188cm versatile defender who won the Harrison Medal in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships in 2013, before missing this year’s championships with injury.
Father-Son selection, Clayton, who stands at 190cm, has been used all over the ground throughout his TAC Cup season with the Sandringham Dragons and in his games with Vic Metro in 2014.
Clayton spent two weeks training at the Lions – one in December last year and another in January – and has always barracked for the Club.
The Father-Son & Academy Players bidding meeting will be held at 10am on Monday at the beginning of the AFL Trade Period.
