The Brisbane Lions will dedicate their Round 3 match against North Melbourne at the Gabba to raising funds for those in our community that were severely affected by the recent floods.
Proceeds raised at this Saturday night’s blockbuster will go to families within the Queensland football community who have been most affected.
The Lions will work with AFL Queensland and flood affected community clubs to fund player registrations, boots and equipment for the ’22 season to make it easier for families to get back to doing what they love.
Lions AFL players experienced the devastation of the floods firsthand when they attended evacuation centres, homes and community football clubs that had been affected and vowed to do more.
The AFL leadership group volunteered to auction off their boots to raise funds. The boots will go live during the match on Saturday night, and fans can bid on them from bounce on the night – all funds raised from the sale of the boots will go directly to flood victims.
North Melbourne Captain, Jack Ziebell, has also agreed to donate his boots to the cause and they will go live in the same auction.
Fans can get involved by participating in the 50/50 charity raffle on the night. Just look out for the sellers in green, buy a ticket and half the proceeds raised will go to our flood relief campaign with the other half to be won by a lucky participant on the night. You can also pre-buy your tickets online from now HERE.
The Lions will also welcome those from affected community clubs to the game on Saturday night for free to give them a night to switch off and just enjoy the footy.
Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann said the flood relief initiative was the least the Club could do to give back to the South East Queensland community.
“The local community have been fantastic supporters of our footy club and to see them suffer such devastating losses has been terrible.
“We hope that we can raise some money on Saturday night here at the Gabba that will help ease a bit of the burden and get families back to doing what they love and that’s playing and watching the footy.
“Our players were particularly strong on wanting to take part and have offered their boots up for auction as well.
“Our members and fans are fantastic and we know that they’ll get behind this great cause to help us make a difference to those families who have lost everything.”
