Brisbane Lions mascot Bernie 'Gabba' Vegas has not only won Triple M radio's inaugural Mascot Race but also made some new friends on the southside by donating the prize money to the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre.

Bernie powered home over the hurdles on home straight at the Eagle Farm Racecourse in front of a packed crowd last Saturday to grab the $5,000 winner's cheque for one of Logan's main community facilities.

It was a hard fought race between 14 mascots from wide ranging organisations such as the Cancer Research Foundation, Express Post, Hog's Breath Cafe, the Queensland Bulls, Apex, the Heart Foundation and the Brisbane Roar.

But Bernie managed to break through the mascot mayhem right on the finish line to bag the money which will be handed over to the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre in a fortnight's time when the cheque arrives at the Lions' Gabba offices.

The Logan Community Centre based in Springwood offers emergency relief, community information and referrals, counselling, school holiday programs, parenting programs, playgroups and other social activities.
