Are you and Troy Selwood tight? You seem to mention him quite a bit. How’s his recovery going? Any chance we might see him this weekend?
Sally from Melbourne (Victoria)

Yeah, me and Troy are pretty tight.

Him and Joel Macdonald used to get stuck into me a fair bit with their show Mac & Bunno so I figure this column give me the chance to have a crack back at them.

Troy played in the reserves on the weekend so his head is obviously getting better. It will probably depend on how the doctors reckon he pulled up whether he gets back in the seniors this week.

Hi Ash. I noticed that the players slipped over a lot during the Geelong and Richmond games. Do you guys wear different boots for Melbourne games compared with Gabba games?
Merilyn from Cornubia (QLD)

Some of the guys do wear different boots at times when we travel to Melbourne, mainly because we play at grounds we’re not that used to.

You generally wear the pair of boots you are most comfortable with out on the field for the pre-game warm-up and then choose to either stick with them or change them over for the game.

But it’s not just the venue we play at – the weather can also mean you need to change boots.

Who was your favourite footy player when you were growing up? Did you have any other sporting heroes that you admired in other sports?
Jess from Mackay (Queensland)

Being a Perth boy and pretty keen West Coast Eagles fan, I really admired Peter Matera.

In other sports, I probably look up to guys like Michael Jordan (basketball) and Kelly Slater (surfing) because they were the best in their sport for a long period of time.

What type of role do you think Matt Austin will fit into within the side? He looks very promising to me.
Aaron from Brisbane (Queensland)

Matt’s doing really well after being injured for most of his first season. He can probably fit into a few spots on the field – most likely at half-back or half-forward.

Jared Brennan thinks he’s the only genuine utility in the team, but Matt Austin is pretty versatile too.

How do you feel before each game? (eg nervous, excited etc.)
Thomas from Indooroopilly (QLD)

When I was a bit younger I probably got a bit nervous before games but now I am pretty relaxed.

I guess it helps when you have played for a fair few seasons.

What are some of the challenges of playing in the Ressies?
Chris from Kedron (QLD)

One of the major challenges is playing on suburban grounds around Queensland. While they are always in pretty good nick, it’s definitely not the same as playing on AFL grounds like the Gabba.

The game is also at a different pace and standard to seniors which can sometimes make it harder to read the play well.

The most important thing is that you have to go back with the right attitude and work as hard as you would any other week.

Hey Ash, How is Jamie Charman? Can you please tell me when he is coming back? My favourite players are you, Sherman and Charman. Talk to you soon.
Morgan from Brisbane (QLD)

Thanks Morgan. Charmo is probably still a few weeks away but should be back not long after the Split Round.

He isn’t wearing the ‘moon boot’ on his ankle anymore and is participating in some training drills and should running soon.

I’m sure Mitch Clark and Jared Brennan will be looking forward to Charmo coming back. They have done a great job in the ruck but will certainly appreciate having the big fella back soon.

Are you a Mac or PC person?
Alice from Melbourne (VIC)

I’m a MacBook person.

Just regarding this week’s players fashion parade – are they chosen or do they volunteer to participate?
Jo from Bendigo (VIC)

I’m pretty sure most of the guys involved would have been asked to do it.

Although Shermo probably put his hand up to be in the show. He fancies himself as a bit of a fashion guru.

Hi Ash. What’s your favourite TV show?
Sam from Richmond (VIC)

I’ve actually got a couple. I really like the The Chapelle Show on The Comedy Channel, Two and a Half Men and Foxtel’s Man v Wild.
