A gift exchange is a tradition that has always been an important part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
The tradition shows respect to the receiver as well as to their family and ancestors and is also a way to show appreciation of knowledge that is exchanged.
Last week, we gifted Hawthorn with a killer boomerang created by ex-Lions, Hawks player and proud Kooma/Kunja man, Rhan Hooper.
As we return to Yuggera & Turrbal Country for our Round 11 clash with GWS, we will gift the Giants with a Dhari.
The Dhari is a ceremonial headdress of the Torres Strait people and is the central symbol on the region’s flag, symbolising the identity and unity of all Torres Strait Islanders.
Customarily worn and made by males, dhari designs vary from island to island.
The Dhari we're gifting in Sir Doug Nicholls Round was designed by proud Torres Strait man, Toby Cedar.
