Collingwood v Brisbane Lions
Sunday, 17 March on 2.05pm AEDT
Victoria Park, Melbourne
Entry is FREE
Coach Craig Starcevich has welcomed back three players into his team as the Lions fight to keep their season alive against Collingwood on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions must win this game to finish in the top two of Conference B, to then advance to Week 1 of the AFLW 2019 Finals.
Paige Parker, Emma Pittman and Nat Grider have all been recalled to the team this week. Lauren Bella and Jordan Zanchetta will travel as emergencies.
Parker and Pittman were selected because of their run and attacking flair, which Starcevich said will be an asset against the Pies. Both have not played for the Lions since their Round 3 loss to Melbourne.
“Paige is a really good outsider runner and brings great speed,” Starcevich said.
“She will help get some attacking rebound out of our backline.
“While Emma is a great sweeping midfielder.”
Round 6’s joint Rising Star winner Jacqui Yorston has been named in the midfield. Last week’s debutant Jade Ellenger has retained her spot after kicking two goals in her first AFLW game against the Blues.
Captain Leah Kaslar will miss the final regular game of the season after injuring her knee in last week’s loss to Carlton.
Starcevich said Kaslar was working with the medical staff on the best way forward.
"She hasn’t recovered well enough,” he said.
“The damage will be assessed next week.”
In order to finish in the top two of the Conference B competition to then advance to the finals, as well as a victory, the Lions need the Giants to defeat Geelong and/or Carlton losing to the Western Bulldogs.
Brisbane-based Lions fans are encouraged to head along to Lions Springwood Club for the Round 7 AFLW Watch Party. Click here for more information.
The match will be broadcasted live on 7Mate in Adelaide and Brisbane or Fox Footy nation-wide.
