The Brisbane Lions are partnering with The Long Walk, AFL Queensland, Deadly Choices and Reconciliation Australia for NAIDOC Week celebrations.
NAIDOC Stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
This year’s theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! and this may mean something different to everyone as we are all on our own journey of deepening our understanding of Australia’s shared history and what it means to our First Nations People.
The Lions will have a range of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Here’s how you can get involved.

Join the Brisbane Lions for our first Murri Carnival together with Deadly Choices. There will be AFL games, education sessions, free lunch and a playing kit provided.
You’ll get the chance to meet your favourite Lions players and go in the draw to win tickets to watch them play on July 10 when we take on Essendon at The Gabba in Round 17 of the Toyota AFL Premiership season.
Open for kids aged 13-18.

JOIN US FOR THE LONG WALK
Join us on Sunday 10 July for this year’s Long Walk. The walk starts at the Wheel of Brisbane and will make its way through to the Gabba for the Round 17 clash against Essendon. The Long Walk Trust is a charity inspired by former Essendon player Michael Long’s walk from Melbourne to Canberra to get the lives of Indigenous people back on the national agenda. The charity works for Indigenous wellbeing and raises funds to support programs that improve conditions for Indigenous Australians.
The Brisbane Lions in partnership with The Long Walk Foundation, Deadly Choices and AFL Queensland annually hosts The Long Walk as part of our commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement, and is the largest walk held by an AFL Club outside of the ‘Dreamtime at the G’ celebration between Richmond and Essendon.
Date: Sunday 10 July
Time: Meet at 11:00am, Walk begins at 11:20am
Start Location: South Bank Parklands, The Wheel of Brisbane
End Location: Gate 2, The Gabba
The Long Walk commences at 11:20am and will take approximately 45 minutes, getting you back in time to enjoy the pre-game fun and watch Lions v Essendon bounce at 1:10pm.

Our Round 17 clash against Essendon lands on the final day of NAIDOC Week, and we’ll be using this opportunity to celebrate and embrace this year’s theme by:

- Wearing the 2022 Indigenous guernsey designed by triple premiership player and proud Eastern Arrernte man, Darryl White
- Live entertainment
- Family friendly fun in Lion Park from 11am
