For the first time in the QClash’s short history, the Brisbane Lions will travel south to face the Suns on the Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

But they won’t be heading into enemy territory alone.

A strong collection of Lions members will also be joining the convoy down the Pacific Highway as part of the Club’s first annual QClash Road Trip.

Road trippers will assemble at the Gabba early on Saturday afternoon for their very own mini Lion Park experience which includes a free sausage sizzle and a range of other activities, before jumping on buses headed for the Gold Coast.

Senior Coach Michael Voss said it’s comforting to know that so many loyal Lions members will be travelling en masse to Metricon Stadium to show their support.

“We have busloads of people going down this weekend,” Voss said.

“They’ll probably have to have a passport to be able to get through Beenleigh!”

While still in its infancy, the intra-State rivalry between the Lions and Suns has certainly developed clear boundaries in Queensland.

“We hope to build that rivalry,” Voss said.

“I still have a burning memory of what the first QClash was like (when the Suns defeated the Lions by 8 points).”

“That will always stay with me.”

Even though the Gold Coast are yet to win a match in front of their home crowd at Metricon Stadium, Voss says the Suns will be primed to do so against their ‘big brothers’.

“I think the Gold Coast have shown over the last couple of weeks exactly what talent they have got,” he said.

“They’re coming off a really good win against Richmond, and have been playing very well at Metricon Stadium this season against some pretty good sides.”
