Darcy Wilmot will become the first Brisbane Lions player to debut in an AFL Final.
The 18-year-old was a highlight of the 2021 NAB AFL Draft, where he celebrated with a "few Pepsi Max's with the boys."
Ever since, the young defender has put his head down and admitted he wasn't sure his opportunity would come this year.
“I thought I had opportunities throughout the season but coming to the end of it and our team being pretty healthy, I was pretty happy to accept that it might not happen," he said.
"I thought I would keep working hard just in case that one per cent turned my way – which it has.”
While the mission ahead may be an overwhelming challenge for some youngsters, Wilmot says he understands the task tomorrow night and is embracing the occasion.
“It’s a huge chance,” Wilmot said as he embraces the occasion.
“Always stay ready, as you just never know when you’ll get your chance.
“I just knew that when an opportunity came, I'd definitely be ready for it and would grab it.
Alongside the youngster, Chris Fagan has called upon physical midfielder in Dev Robertson.
Robertson has impressed in the VFL with his work around the contest, highlighted in a stand-out performance against the Casey Demons where he collected 30 disposals and kicked three goals.
In addition to a debutant, the team will celebrate the milestones of Joe Daniher (150th AFL Game) and Oscar McInerney (100th AFL Game).
Brisbane will be without Cam Rayner and Noah Answerth as they serve their one-match suspensions, while midfielder Jarryd Lyons will miss Thursday night's Final with groin soreness.
Kai Lohmann, Cal Ah Chee, Darcy Fort and Ryan Lester have been named as emergencies.
