MITCH Clark was thrown into the ruck through necessity, but the young Lion is making the position his own.

With Jamie Charman and Mathew Leuenberger both still a long way from resuming, Clark is playing well enough to ensure that Michael Voss will have a tough choice to make when the recognised ruckmen recover from their respective injuries.

"I don't know about that," Clark said after his 21-possession, 29-hitout performance in the Lions' 18-point win over North Melbourne on Saturday.

"I'm just enjoying my footy after a tough couple of years. I did the all the training after my knee surgery, and now it's paying off.

"I'm not to sure where I see myself [in the long term]. I'm only 21 and I'm just enjoying the experience. I've been given the opportunity, so I just need to grab it with both hands. It's a bit tough up forward with the two big fellas up there, so I needed to develop my game somewhere else."

Clark has just 32 games to his name, but has acquitted himself well against bigger-bodied veterans of the league. It's not an easy way to learn, but it's proving effective.

"It gets me used to having to use my body to position myself, and obviously I'm around the action a lot of the time," he said.

"I'm getting used to the speed of the game and the pressure of it and stuff like that.

"They're [mostly] a lot stronger than me, so I have to use different tactics whether that's jumping over them or getting and front and trying to hold my spot.

"I'm just trying to provide a contest [though]; I know that I'm probably going to get beaten in the hitouts every week, but if I can try and get a couple of clearances myself and do some damage around the ground as well [I'll be happy]."
