Friday night’s clash against Collingwood looming as a big finish to an even bigger home and away season.

Get up to speed with everything you need to know ahead of the Round 10 match-up.

#1 An AFLW Rivalry

There’s been plenty of tense and physical battles between the Lions and the Pies over the years, and Friday night is shaping up to be no different.

The history between them stretches right back to Season One, with the two Clubs having met eight times over the past six seasons.

The Lions have won the last four meetings, with two of those Elimination Finals that ultimately ended the Pies season.

The last time Brisbane and Collingwood met was in the Season Six Qualifying Final, where the Lions defeated the Pies by 50 points to hand them their biggest ever loss and knock them out of the Premiership race.

While it’s not quite do or die on Friday night, there is still plenty on the line with final ladder placings up for grabs.

The Lions will be on the hunt for their second-ever Minor Premiership, needing a solid win over the Pies to stave off the second-placed Dees and snag a finish on top of the ladder, while the Pies will be looking to sneak back into the top four after being in the mix all season.

The last chance for either Club to make a statement ahead of Finals, Friday night is shaping up to be one of the biggest matches of the season.

#2 Battle of the Midfield

Friday night’s four points could be won or lost in the midfield battle, with two experienced midfields going head-to-head.

An in-form Lions midfield has shown no signs of slowing down, with Foundation Lion Ally Anderson posting one of her best performances to date in last weekend’s clash against Hawthorn.

Anderson gathered 31 possessions (16 contested), 10 clearances, five score involvements and 393 metres gained to become a force to be reckoned with at Skybus Stadium.

When combined with the likes of reigning W medallist Emily Bates, tackling machine Cathy Svarc, the relentless Belle Dawes, and emerging ruck star Tahlia Hickie, the Lions’ midfield begins to look pretty unstoppable.

However the Pies won’t be without stars of their own, with electric midfielder Chloe Molloy, Captain Steph Chiocci and All Australian Jamiee Lambert all named in Friday night’s clash.

Boosted by the return of dual sport athlete Ash Brazill (adductor), the Lions midfield group will have their work cut out for them on Friday night.
