Six Lions have been recognised for their outstanding AFLW seasons, named in the 2022 Season Seven AFLW All-Australian squad.
Ally Anderson, Greta Bodey, Nat Grider, Tahlia Hickie, Bre Koenen and Jesse Wardlaw have all been named in the 42-player squad.
The six squad selections are the most of any Club, with Geelong, Melbourne, Adelaide and Richmond the closest to the Lions with four each.
The nomination is Anderson’s third All-Australian squad selection, with the 28-year-old previously named in the 2018 and selected in the final 2019 team.
It comes off the back of a stellar season for the foundation Lion, with Anderson finishing the home-and-away season having recorded career-high numbers of disposals, kicks, handballs and clearances.
Koenen receives her first All-Australian squad selection following an impressive season from the AFLW Captain.
Finishing 5th in the competition for marks (46) and 6th for intercept possessions (75), the key defender has been a critical player in the Lions’ effective defensive unit.
Fellow defender Grider has earned her second All-Australian squad selection, just seven months after she was named in her first All Australian team for a breakout Season Six performance.
Grider continued to build off her impressive form in Season Seven, putting together another solid and consistent performance as part of a regimented Lions’ backline.
Hickie continued to establish her name as one of the competition’s emerging premier rucks in Season Six to earn first All-Australian squad selection.
In her third full AFLW season, Hickie averaged 21.1 hitouts per game, including an impressive career-high 34 hitouts against GWS in Round 2.
Both Bodey and Wardlaw receive their second All-Australian squad selections after previously being selected for the squad in 2022 and 2020, respectively.
Wardlaw’s selection follows a career-best season for the tall forward, booting 19 goals in the home and away season to assert her position at the competition’s Season Seven leading goalkicker.
While crafty talent Bodey receives her All-Australian squad selection after a consistent season in the Lions’ forward line where she averaged a goal a game, and finished the regular season with 11 goals and 13 behinds.
The 2022 Season Seven AFLW All-Australian selection panel consists of Nicole Livingstone (Chairperson), Sarah Black, Sam Virgo, Andrew Dillon, Laura Kane, Kelli Underwood, Megan Waters, Narelle Smith and Tim Harrington.
