The Park Ridge Pirates are set to participate in the Brisbane Junior AFL competition for the first time in 2009 thanks to a Brisbane Lions and AFLQ joint initiative.

The Lions and AFLQ developed a proposal two years ago to form six new junior clubs across South-East Brisbane.

The initiative targeted areas in Brisbane that would most benefit from the development of a new junior club.

It was a requirement for the new club to be school-based and have sufficient green space in the area to facilitate the team.

After a thorough investigation, Park Ridge State School located in Logan was selected as one of the lucky schools to be the home for a new junior football team.

Park Ridge State School was identified as an area of residential growth in the coming years and was located between two existing clubs – Jimboomba and Calamvale – who both have strong junior numbers.

The Park Ridge Pirates will now enter the Brisbane Juniors competition in 2009.

The Brisbane Lions logo will feature prominently on the junior team’s uniforms as well as some of the club’s equipment including post pads and footballs.

All players that register with the Park Ridge Pirates will have the opportunity to attend a Lions match in 2009 as an introductory visit to the Gabba.

Registered players will also receive a Lions supporter pack which includes a participation card that allows them free-of-charge entry to games at the Gabba when accompanied by an adult.

The Club looks forward to welcoming the Park Ridge Pirates to the Brisbane Junior competition and the Gabba next season.
