It’s rare to go into game with so many emotions. The week leading into the first game of the 2015 season was smooth sailing, but plenty changed when I was presented with my new jumper by the legend himself, Leigh Matthews. Pulling on a jumper means everything to me, a moment I’ve never taken for granted, but this time it had a different feeling.
Im not one to be nervous before a game, I’d say I usually feed off the adrenaline this great game produces but this time i’ll admit, I had the butterflies.
Internally I wanted to prove myself, I wanted to make my family proud, to earn the respect of my new team mates and this game, was the the beginning of the quest to repay the club for giving me the opportunity to continue my AFL career.
It obviously wasn’t the result we wanted. After a gruelling pre season and a successful NAB Challenge campaign, we have created expectations on what the group can deliver. The values we’ve built our game and our season around weren’t met, but a positive to come out of our first loss was the fight back. We finished the game the way we should of started it, and that confidence will be taken into this weeks first interstate game.
I want to thank the faithful who #GotToTheGabba to support the boys for the season opener, thirty-one-thousand turned up which created an amazing atmosphere. We’re trying hard to make the Gabba our fortress, so come along and be involved round 3 vs the Tiges.
Robbo.
