The Brisbane Lions produced another stirring comeback to down the Footscray Bulldogs in Round 2 of the VFL at Marvel Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

From 33-points down the Lions kicked the last five goals of the game to cap off a thrilling victory.

Jaxon Prior kicked the first goal of the match but the Dogs clicked into gear kicking the next six goals in a row.

At quarter-time Footscray led by 30 points and was dominant on the ground and in the air.

The second term rained goals, nine majors were kicked, in what became an old-fashioned shootout.

Prior kicked his second before Deven Robertson and Wylie Buzza closed the margin to 12points.

Robertson was monumental for the Lions, his 23 disposals were incredibly effective, but it was his presence on the defensive end that stood out.

To go with his goal, Robertson had 12 tackles for the match, which helped the Lions back into the game through the middle of the ground.

Two quick goals from the Dogs, however, halted any momentum the Lions had gained.

Tom Fullarton and Blake Coleman swung the match back on the Lions terms before the Dogs’ AFL-listed player Rhylee West ensured Footscray would hold a 26-point advantage at the main break.

The Lions needed to stem the scoring rate after half-time and that is exactly what happened.

A hotly-contested third quarter only resulted in three goals, but critically two of those to Brisbane.

Shadeau Brain and Kalin Lane were the scorers and were able to hold the Dogs to 19 points adrift going into the final term.

The final stanza couldn’t have started worse for Brisbane giving up the first goal inside two minutes.

Seemingly needing an insurmountable 25-point comeback, the Lions flicked a switch and turned the match on its head.

Four goals in 15 minutes of play from Buzza, Jimmy Tunstill, Fullarton and Jaspa Fletcher brought the margin back to a solitary point.

Tunstill then kicked a behind to level the match.

Kai Lohmann, taking a leaf from Buzza’s book last week, kicked the winning major with a snap around his body and through traffic.

Lohmann’s goal handed the Lions the lead for this first time since the fifth minute of the match.

Two behinds from Coleman and Kyle Dunkley sealed the thrilling victory and the second come-from-behind win in as many weeks.

Rhys Mathieson was once again a clearance beast, nine clearances to go along with 25 touches and nine tackles along with AFL talent Jarryd Lyons were enormous in Brisbane’s win.

Lyons was a force through the middle of the ground with 33 disposals, seven tackles and nine clearances.

Robertson, Mathieson and Lyons combined for 22 clearances and 81 disposals.

Prior, Buzza and Fullarton were the multiple goal kickers with Prior’s all coming before half-time.

Harry Sharp was once again influential along the wing kicking a goal and having 23 touches of his own.

The Lions are back at home this Thursday at 1pm to take on the Collingwood Magpies with the first bounce at 1:05pm from Brighton Homes Arena.
