His work, which spans children’s television, drama and documentary, can be seen regularly on the ABC, SBS and NITV.

Brisbane Lions Chairman, Andrew Wellington, said Gibson would bring a specialised skillset to the Lions Board and add to its diversity.

“The Brisbane Lions constitution allows us to appoint a Director where they possess the expertise or experience to make a meaningful contribution to the Club,” he said.

“Content creation and story-telling is an increasingly important part of a modern organisation’s connection with their stakeholders and the community.

“Dean’s knowledge and experience in contemporary content creation adds a new skill set to our Board; a skill set which is extremely valuable in this digital age.  Dean also adds to the cultural diversity of our Board.”

Along with his family, wife Vanessa and children Hope and Jed, Gibson has been a long-time Lions supporter and proud member since the Bears started calling the Gabba home.

"It's an absolute honour for me to be invited to serve on the Board of the Brisbane Lions,” he said.

“This Club holds a special place in my heart, as it goes back to my youth watching the mighty Bears play at Carrara.

“To me, sport has always been more than just a game - it's a way of bringing people together and creating positive change in society.

“Watching my kids Hope and Jed play junior Aussie rules footy constantly reminds me how the power of sport influences and shapes their lives.

“Being apart of the Lions Board will allow me to combine my love of the game and my skills and expertise to make a meaningful impact.

“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to have a positive influence on the Club and help shape its future.”

Outside of the film industry, Gibson currently sits on the board of Screen Queensland, Queensland Theatre, Griffith University Film School advisory board and the Essential Screen Skills industry advisory board.
