LIONS@Springwood have been recognised as an industry leader at the annual Keno and Clubs Queensland Awards for Excellence held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

LIONS@Springwood were awarded the Health and Wellbeing Award, for their Go Pink project, which raised awareness and much needed funds for the Mater Foundation.

The Health and Wellbeing Award recognises approaches to sustain and build on improvements in quality health and wellbeing in the community - including mental health or clinical support.

The Go Pink project was started to raise money for cancer awareness, a cause close to the heart of the staff and community in and around LIONS@Springwood.

“2022 was the third year in a row we have hosted the major event, one that is considered a highlight on the calendar by our staff,” said Murray Jamieson, General Manager LIONS@Springwood.

“The aim for Go Pink in 2022 was to raise $50,000 to donate to the Mater Foundation, a charity partner of the Brisbane Lions."

“We are really proud of our team from LIONS@Springwood. This event and others like it would not happen without the countless hours of dedication from our staff.”

With the support of the community, LIONS@Springwood raised over $58,000 supporting the day-to-day needs of cancer patients.

“To our Lions community, an event such as this could not be as successful if not for your high level of support,” said Jamieson.

“Your eagerness to be involved in this fundraiser and raising awareness for Mater Chicks in Pink and the Mater Foundation is incredible.”

To raise the money, a 200 person three-course luncheon with raffles and an auction was the flagship fundraiser of the LIONS@Springwood Go Pink project, with several smaller events held throughout the year to allow staff and members to be more involved.

The team also took part in #magicmilesaroundaustralia, where staff would track their mileage walked or run raising an additional $12,000.

Jamieson said the LIONS@Springwood team were thrilled to have been recognised as an industry leader for their fundraising efforts, taking out the Queensland award, and were already looking to go bigger and better in 2023.

“We are already planning and looking forward to our 2023 event, $60k is the new PINK!”
