Browny fronted a packed media conference today to launch the events and said he was looking forward to sharing plenty of laughs and memories as he reflects on a glorious 15-year career with the Club.
Leigh Matthews and other special guests will join the champion on stage as he reflects on his time in the game – with “Lethal” promising a special surprise for the man he rates as the bravest footballer he has seen.
The Brisbane event will be held on Tuesday 31st March at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, leading into the blockbuster AFL season opener against Collingwood at the Gabba on Easter Saturday night.
A Melbourne lunch is planned for Friday 8th May at Crown Paladium ahead of the clash with Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, 10th May.
“I’m looking forward to the farewell lunches as a bit of a send-off to the fans. It should be good fun to go through some of the memories of my career,” Brown said.
“I’ll talk about things with Leigh and a few other people up on stage. It should be a really good day and I’ll get to have a final beer with all the supporters and all the people who come along – and I won’t have to worry about training the next day so I might be able to let my hair down a little bit!
“I might cop some stick but it’s nothing that hasn’t been said before, I’ve been roasted plenty of times, but I’m definitely looking forward to a few of the ex-teammates coming along.
“It was hard to enjoy your time with ex-teammates, especially at Premiership reunions, because I was still playing but now that
I’m retired along with the rest of the boys, we can relax and you can actually reflect upon your career.
“One of Leighs’ things, especially during the Premiership years, was that we never looked back so I’ve never really had an opportunity to reflect on my career and some of the success I was involved in along the way until I retired, so it’s good to be able to look back and tell a few stories and have a laugh.
“It’s been a big part of my life, this Footy Club, and I’ve been here for a 15 year playing career and my father Brian played for the Lions as well – I’ve been involved in it all my life and after showing some signs of improvement last year, I really hope this great Club can get back to being successful in finals again.
