The Brisbane Lions match up against St. Kilda this Friday night is a potential season-shaper for both Clubs, but there’s more to play for than a top four spot.

Our Round 15 match marks the third annual Spud’s Game: A Match For Mental Health. A match dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, and to raise funds for mental health initiatives run through St. Kilda’s Danny Frawley Centre.

A key feature of the match is the two minute delay to the start of the game. Players and staff from both teams, and the umpires, will come together to form a circle in favour of a conversation about mental health in honour of late St Kilda great Danny “Spud” Frawley.

Brisbane Lions CEO, Greg Swann, said the Lions were proud to be involved in the momentous match for mental health.

“Spud’s Game is a great example of the power of football,” he said.

"Our footy club values the opportunity to be involved in Spud’s Game which encourages us all to go beyond the banter and take action for the mental health of our mates, while raising life-saving funds to deliver pioneering mental fitness and suicide prevention programs through the Danny Frawley Centre.”

Anita Frawley has thanked the sporting community for once again rallying behind this important cause in the name of her late husband.

“This is such an important issue for the community and one that is clearly close to the hearts of our family,” she said.

“For those experiencing mental ill-health, whether that be personally or through a family or friend, please know you are not alone and there is support available to you. We hope this game is sign of that.”
