Three seasons and two Grand Final appearances after starting in the NAB AFL Women's competition, Brisbane will finally get to play on the Gabba on Saturday.

The Lions host Gold Coast in the third and final Winter Series match between the clubs, and both teams couldn't be happier.

"It's big for our group who have trained downstairs for three or four years and now they get a chance to run around on this ground and play on the hallowed turf," Lions coach Craig Starcevich said on Thursday.

With the AFLW clashing with cricket season, Brisbane has played its home games at three different venues on the northside of the city – as far as 45 minutes away.

Even when it qualified to host the inaugural Grand Final against Adelaide in 2017, a booking mishap saw the game shifted 70km south to Metricon Stadium.

Lions leader Sharni Webb said even getting one training session on the ground two weeks ago made her head spin.

"We put full kit on and came out and it was just an awesome feeling to look around and see the lights on, see the number of seats and think how amazing it's going to be to see thousands of people on Saturday," she said.

"This is a dream come true for a lot of girls.

"It's something we've wanted since year one and now we get a chance to play at our spiritual home deck."

Brisbane has won both winter matches against the start-up Suns.

The Lions have used 11 AFLW-listed players in both matches, while Gold Coast coach David Lake says he's still getting a grasp on the talent he has to work with.

"Each game has been a great opportunity for me to sort through what I've got and the opportunity to play against good quality opposition has been really important," he said.

Brisbane is hopeful of getting 5000 spectators to Saturday's game that starts at 2pm.
