The Brisbane Lions are pleased to announce our official Practice Match and Match Simulation opponents leading into the 2023 NAB AFL Season.
It’s been one of the strongest and longest off-seasons for the lionesses who have completed their first pre-season at the Club’s new High Performance Centre, Brighton Homes Arena.
Speaking with Brisbane Lions head of women’s football, Bree Brock, she said there’s certainly some excitement among the group to get into some match play.
Adding to an already stacked day of Brisbane Lions footy, the Brisbane Lions will take on three-time Premiers, Adelaide Crows in a match simulation at Brighton Homes Arena, Saturday 12 August at 2:00pm.
“This has been one of our best pre-seasons yet and to see how hard the group has worked as been tremendous,” she said.
“We’re excited to get a chance to practice against Adelaide who has been a great opponent for us in the past.”
The VFL will act as a curtain-raiser to this match, with Brisbane taking on Williamstown at Brighton Homes Arena from 11:00am. With the Lions AFL team taking on Adelaide at the Gabba at 4:35pm that afternoon to complete the ‘triple header’.
The Lions will also get a chance to put together a full dress rehearsal against the Gold Coast SUNS.
“With some new rules and timings coming in this season, it will be great to have a proper practice match against our local rivals, the Gold Coast SUNS,” Brock said.
“With both our fan bases existing in this Southeast pocket, we’re expecting a great turnout at Brighton Homes Arena to cheer us on.”
The practice match against the Gold Coast SUNS will take place at 10:35am Saturday 19 August at Brighton Homes Arena.
