Lions Life Member
Percy Mitchell was the greatest administrator in Fitzroy Football Club history, and dedicated more than 50 years to the club and the game from the 1930’s.
How highly he was regarded was best indicated when, in 1987, the club’s most prestigious award, the best & fairest, was named the Percy Mitchell Medal in his honour.
His service was endless and was matched only by his diligence and his love for all things Fitzroy ..… he was club treasurer 1937-39 and secretary 1940-48, including the 1944 premiership when his astute recruiting came to the fore.
Fitzroy vice-president 1949-50 and Patron from 1946-86, he was especially committed to the past players.
He also cast his ever-discerning eye over the development of the game, acting as Fitzroy delegate to the then VFL from 1940-50 before serving as treasurer of the Australian National Football Council 1946-63 and president 1964-71.
Through it all he was honorary Fitzroy historian for 40 years from 1946.
What he didn’t know about Fitzroy wasn’t worth knowing, and there is no more worthy inductee to the Brisbane Lions Hall of Fame .. PERCY MITCHELL
