The Brisbane Lions’ hopes of playing Finals this year might be a pipe-dream, but Senior Coach Michael Voss wasn’t about to undersell the importance of Saturday afternoon’s match against Richmond for his team.

The Lions will visit the AFL’s premier stadium, the MCG, for the first time this season and face a side that looks certain to be a significant player in September.

“This is a big one,” Voss said.

“We’re at the MCG. We haven’t been in Melbourne for what feels like an eternity. It’s been a long time, we’ve been around Australia and we find ourselves back at the home of football again, playing against the Tigers who are up and about off the back of a very good victory.

“It’s a big game for us. We’ve been in some good form and finishing games off strong.

“Significantly, we won a first quarter on the weekend, and we haven’t had too many of those. They’re all small things for us as a group.

“The guys should be coming down there feeling pretty confident about the game.”

Voss also made no secret of his Club’s desire to see Jonathan Brown play on again in 2014, but said the final decision would rest with the Co-Captain.

“We want him to play on next year,” Voss said.

“But it’s up to him. Any discussion I’ve had with him, he’s in a good frame of mind, is really positive about the direction of the team. I guess he’ll make the decision in due course.

“I guess people are reading in-between the lines a little bit. From our end, there will no ambiguity about what we want him to do.”

Stefan Martin and Jordan Lisle seem the most likely candidates to fill the void left by Brown up forward.
