2019 All Australian and Lions AFLW Best & Fairest winner Ally Anderson has pledged her allegiance to the Club for the 2020 season.
All three Best & Fairest winners in the Club’s history; Anderson, Kate Lutkins and Emily Bates; have signed on for next season.
“I’m really excited to re-sign with the Lions, there’s no where else I’d rather be,” Anderson said.
“We have a quality group of players and people and I can’t wait to get back into it.”
Joining Anderson are fellow foundation players Breanna Koenen and Shannon Campbell, in addition to Arianna Clarke, who played her second season for the Lions in 2019.
Koenen said she believes the Club is in a good place.
“I’ve really enjoyed the past three years and I’ve learned so much,” she said.
“I’ve had an amazing time with the coaches, players and staff and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Campbell, who works on the Sunshine Coast for AFL Queensland agreed.
“This is home for me and it’s the Club I have supported since I was young,” she said.
“It’s a great group of girls and I can’t wait to continue the journey with them.”
Gold Coast based Clarke said she was excited to sign with the Club for the 2020 season.
“Our women’s team has built a phenomenal culture that’s reflected through our hard work and dedication to one another,” Clarke said.
“I can’t wait to be a part of that for the next two years and to show the competition what we can do.”
Lions Women’s CEO Breeanna Brock said these four experienced players will boost the Club’s list next season.
“Ally had a breakout third year and she continues to get better and better thanks to her hard work ethic,” she said.
“Bre and Shannon are highly respected by their teammates for their formidable work in the backline.
“Both are as tough as they come, with Shannon taking out the Most Relentless Award at our Best & Fairest night.”
While Clarke shows professionalism well beyond her 19 years of age.
“Ari lives on the Gold Coast and studies at Bond University and has never missed a training session,” Brock said.
“She has shown great potential in her first two years in the Lions’ backline and we look forward to seeing what she can produce in 2020.”
