Cornelius among QAFL goal leaders
Young Lions forward Aaron Cornelius is among the early leaders for the QAFL Ray Hughson Medal.
However, he remains three goals behind reigning Ray Hughson Medallist Darren Ewing for Northern Territory, who took the lead in the QAFL goal-kicking tally following a brilliant performance in Alice Springs on Saturday night.
Ewing showed his class by booting seven goals against the top side in the competition - Morningside.
He now averages just a tick under five goals per game, which he will need to maintain if he is to break the 100-goal barrier. But Ewing's job won't get any easier this week when he fronts Southport and State full-back Kurt Niklaus this week.
Niklaus had five goals kicked on him for the first time in memory last Saturday opposed to former Brisbane Lion Tim Notting.
Notting's haul took him to 12 goals for the season and into second place behind Ewing.
Mt Gravatt's Shane Morrison’s seven goals against Aspley took him to the brink of the top 10 despite having played just the one game. He is equal with Brisbane Lions Tom Rockliff who also booted seven goals from his one QAFL match in 2010.
Rockliff returns to the Lions Reserves side this week to take on the Western Magpies after playing three consecutive games with the seniors.
