Local Queenslander Dayne Zorko had to wait longer than most to get his chance at an AFL career.

But after another standout season with Broadbeach in the NEAFL, which was highlighted by a best-on-ground performance in Queensland’s State match against Western Australia, the zippy 22 year-old finally caught the attention of AFL recruiters.

Now just two days shy of his 23rd birthday, Zorko is a proud Lion who simply can’t wait for the start of the 2012 season.

“I’m rapt to be at the Club. I don’t think I would have had it any other way to be honest,” Zorko said.

“The Club has been so good to me already, and I can’t wait to put on the guernsey for the first time and give a little bit back to the fans.”

Zorko said the closeness of the Lions’ playing group has helped him settle into the Club without any difficulty.

“It’s surprising how well we’ve all gelled together,” he said.

“I’ve gotten closer to the boys than I ever expected so early on. The older guys are definitely embracing the younger guys and everyone just wants to be the one team.”

“We don’t want to be split up in all different groups. We’re one team and I believe we’re going about things the right way.”
