Brisbane Lions midfielder Andrew Raines has committed to the Club for the next two years.
Raines, 26, signed a new contract after a break-out season saw him capture the Lions’ Most Professional Player award for 2012.
He joins fellow teammates Ash McGrath, Ryan Lester, Rohan Bewick and Matt Maguire in re-signing with the Club in recent weeks.
Raines, who arrived at the Lions from Richmond at the end of 2009, had an injury-hampered start to his time in Brisbane, but stamped himself this year as one of the game’s premier run-with players.
Raines said that he was excited about the future of the Club and the improvement shown in 2012.
“I’m a Queensland boy and I love playing up here in Brisbane - we have a terrific footy Club and it’s one that I’m very proud to be a part of,” he said.
“I’m extremely excited about the talent in amongst the group - we’ve improved so much over the last 12 months, and now we know we have to just put our heads down and continue to work hard, and the good results will come,” he said.
General Manager, Football Operations, Dean Warren, said that Raines had worked hard for his opportunities and was a good role model for the Club’s young brigade.
“’Rainesy’ really took his game to a new level in 2012, and that was the result of a lot of hard work, dedication, and attention to detail,” Warren said.
“He sets an fantastic example to our younger players of just what it takes to be a professional AFL player, and we are delighted to see him re-sign.”
