U14 Casey Voss (son or three-time premiership Captain Michael) and U18 Jackson Dickfos (nephew of former Bears/Lions defender Danny) are two familiar names who feature as part of the squad.
Also included are AIS/AFL Academy members Liam Dawson and Matt Hammelman, who headline an U18 division which is sure to be closely scrutinised in the lead-up to the 2014 AFL National Draft.
Cain Tickner and only a handful of other fellow U19s will remain as part of the Academy in 2014 despite being overlooked at last year’s Draft.
Recent Lions draftee Jonathan Freeman, who spent last season with the Academy U19s, is living proof that second chances do exists for athletes who are either late developers or simply maintain that burning desire to do whatever it takes to become an AFL footballer.
Some athletes have unfortunately been trimmed from the squad as the Hyundai Lions Academy continues to drive only the highest standards in the hope of producing quality AFL footballers.
Lions fans will get an opportunity to see some of the Academy U18s live in action THIS Saturday 1 March when they face members of the Gold Coast SUNS’ Academy at Yeronga from 1pm.
The Lions Academy hold an enviable 4-0 record against the SUNS’ Academy in competitive U18 matches, and will be hoping to make it five in a row come Saturday.
