Brisbane Lions Senior Coach Chris Fagan has thrown his support behind #FightMND in aid of friend and former colleague Neale Daniher.
Daniher, the former Essendon player and Melbourne coach, was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2013.
Daniher has campaigned tirelessly with the third ‘Big Freeze’ to be held at the MCG on Monday ahead of the Queen’s Birthday clash between Melbourne and Collingwood.
Donations from the football community and beyond have enabled clinical trials and research grants into the neurological disorder which slowly degenerates the human body.
Fagan who worked with Daniher at the Dees said he encouraged not just the football community, but everyone to get behind the cause.
“My good friend Neale Daniher is the man that’s been the driving force behind the ‘Big Freeze’,” said Fagan.
“He gave me my first job in AFL 20 years ago. He backed me in and showed a lot of faith in me so I feel like it’s the least I can do to thank him for giving me that great opportunity.”
Fagan praised Daniher’s tenacity and courage in the face of adversity.
“I admire his courage in adversity. You can contract a disease like this and let it get to you or you can try and do something about it.
“Although Neale knows the end is going to come at some point of time, he’s making sure every minute that he spends on this planet he’s trying to raise money and raise awareness for MND and that’s a magnificent thing.
“I admire him for it and encourage everybody out there to get behind the cause. Help raise as much money as possible and hopefully we can find a cure for what is a really rotten disease.”
