The Lions have put the ‘sold out’ sign up at the Gabba for the eighth time this season, days out from their Saturday night blockbuster against the Bombers, with the club set to bank the highest average home attendance for a season in 20 years.
A fourth consecutive crowd of 30,000-plus and the eighth for the year beckons for the Round 24 clash that will determine the Lions’ starting position for the finals, and potentially lock in a Gabba final.
Brisbane Lions Chief Executive, Greg Swann thanked the Lions growing supporter base for bringing the roar to the Gabba this year.
“We’ve had our backs to the wall a few times this season but the support of our fans and members, and the noise they create at the Gabba has helped the team get across the line.
“Year on year we’re seeing consistent growth across all metrics of the game. Eight sell outs this year, the largest crowds in two decades, record membership of over 62,000 and participation in Queensland is at an all-time high.
“It’s a good problem to have but it does pose challenges for a venue like the Gabba where capacity has actually decreased over the years.
“Given Queensland’s growing population, the growth of AFL as a code, and the Gabba approaching end of life, it is critical that the viability of a new oval stadium is investigated.
“This facility would service Brisbane for the next four decades and beyond, service the growing needs of the City and help to drive the State’s events and tourism economy.”
Gabba crowds this year have averaged 30,784 – up on the 2023 figure of 30,320, which included two Gabba finals.
If members are unable to attend, the club requests they either return their seat or forward their seat to family or friends to attend.
