Off-season recruit, Shanae Davison will make her Brisbane Lions debut against North Melbourne on Sunday afternoon.

Davison joined the Lions during the 2023 AFLW Sign and Trade Period after crossing the Nullabor from West Coast, where she’d played four seasons.

Hailing from the Kimberley, Davison was selected at pick 18 in the 2020 AFLW NAB Draft and debuted for the Eagles in Round 1 during the 2021 NAB AFLW Season.

Known for her outside run and ball-use, Davison is coming off her best season at AFLW level, reaching career highs across the stats sheet.

Davison said despite coming into a side which is fresh a premiership, the group is hungry for more success this season.

“I’m really excited to be pulling on a Lions jumper this weekend for the first time,” Davison said.

“It is exciting and daunting to be coming into a team which has just come off a premiership but I feel like we have a clean slate now that the season is getting underway and we are all ready for the challenge of a new year.

“The group has been amazing since I arrived here just before pre-season, they’ve been incredibly welcoming and made Brisbane feel like home quite quickly.

“I’m excited to see what we can do this season and that starts with our game on Sunday afternoon.”

Joining the ranks as another outside runner for AFLW senior coach, Craig Starcevich, the two-time premiership winning coach was full of praise for his new recruit.

“Shanae is a great runner, hard worker and has silky skills, she could play half-back, wing or half-forward demonstrating her versatility,” Starcevich said.

“Her footy nous and running ability will be handy for us on Sunday and something we’re looking forward to seeing from her for us throughout the year.

“She’s been a great addition to our group this off-season and her selection is a testament to her hard work this pre-season.”

The Lions will face off against North Melbourne in front of home crowd at Brighton Homes Arena, with the first bounce from 3:05pm AEST.
