The Brisbane Lions today announced a new club membership record with 63,268 fans signing on as members in season 2024.
Brisbane Lions CEO, Greg Swann, thanked members for supporting the Lions and backing the Club rain, hail or shine.
“Membership is the financial backbone of all football clubs, and I want to thank every one of our members from across Australia and internationally, for their passionate support and belief in the direction the Club is heading.
“We’ve seen over 15% growth this season (up from 54,676 in 2023) which is a credit to our growing supporter base, entire playing group and the Club’s administration staff.
“It doesn’t matter if we’re playing at the Gabba, or in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney or on the Gold Coast, you can guarantee our members will be out in force.”
On the eve of the Lions starting their sixth consecutive Finals campaign, Swann said the growing supporter base had helped deliver eight sell outs this season as well as the largest attendances for a home and away season in two decades.
“This Saturday’s Elimination Final is the Gabba’s ninth sell out this season, we’ve had a couple of good hit outs against the Blues recently and I know the team are looking forward to hearing the Gabba roar again one more time this season.
“I’ve been at the Lions for just over a decade now and as the population continues to grow, the support for the game across Queensland is just getting stronger and stronger.
“At the community level, Queensland has achieved record participation numbers, our membership has seen seven years of consecutive growth and with the Gabba’s limited capacity it is becoming harder and harder to get a ticket.”
